    Great therapy, clean, smoking-related scabies

I appreciated the compassionate nurses, friendly and welcoming staff, spotless building (no odors), remodeled gyms and excellent rehab/physical therapy - housekeeping and front desk were great. The facility is older, rooms are small/shared and not very homey, with limited activities and occasional lapses in attentiveness. I was discharged when my care needs and smoking-policy issues exceeded their scope; a smoking-related incident and later developing scabies made the end of my stay the worst medical experience despite very good therapy.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive around clinical rehabilitation services and many frontline staff, with significant operational and safety concerns raised by several reviewers. The most consistent praise centers on the facility's physical therapy and rehab program: multiple reviewers described the PT team as excellent, compassionate, knowledgeable, and effective, with remodeled gym areas and therapists that left a strong positive impression. Several reviewers specifically noted a "rehab-first" orientation and recognition of the therapy staff, suggesting that Lexington Health Care Center is particularly strong for post-acute rehabilitation needs.

Nursing and caregiver interactions receive frequent positive mentions. Reviews describe nurses and staff as compassionate, kind, and quick to address problems, with daily checks and dignified treatment. Front-desk staff and housekeeping are also noted as welcoming and helpful, and the facility is repeatedly described as clean with no unpleasant odors. Taken together, these comments portray a team that can be caring and responsive, especially in the context of short-term rehab stays.

However, there are notable and serious negative themes that prospective residents and families should weigh heavily. Several reviewers reported problems tied to smoking policy enforcement, including discharge due to smoking policy and an unspecified smoking-related room incident. More alarmingly, at least one reviewer reported being given scabies at discharge and another labeled their stay the "worst medical experience," which raises red flags about infection control, patient safety, and the quality of medical oversight. There are also mentions of transfers or discharges because the resident’s level of care exceeded what the facility can provide, indicating potential limits in medical complexity the center can manage.

Facility and comfort issues are mixed. Many reviewers praised cleanliness and the absence of odors, and noted remodeled therapy areas; yet the building overall is described as older, rooms as small and uncomfortable, and some rooms share bathrooms. Several reviewers characterized the atmosphere as "standard institution" rather than homey. Activity programming appears inconsistent in reviewers’ eyes: some mention activities being available, while others say there are not enough recreational activities. Staffing attentiveness is mostly praised but not uniform—some reviewers felt staff could have been more attentive in certain instances.

Patterns suggest Lexington Health Care Center excels at rehabilitation and provides compassionate bedside care in many cases, but has variable performance in policy enforcement, infection control, and managing higher acuity medical needs. The positive reviews cluster around therapy outcomes, cleanliness, and friendly staff; the negative reviews cluster around serious safety/medical issues (smoking incidents, scabies, transfers for higher care), room comfort and facility age, and occasional lapses in attention or activity offerings.

For prospective residents or family members: ask direct questions about infection control procedures, recent infection history, how the facility enforces smoking policies (and how that affects room safety), the facility’s capability limits for higher-acuity patients, room layouts (private vs. shared bathrooms), and activity programming. Also inquire about PT staffing levels and success metrics if rehab is a priority. The facility shows clear strengths in therapy and many staff interactions, but the reported safety incidents and operational limitations are significant considerations that warrant direct clarification before admission.

    About Lexington Health Care Center

Lexington Health Care Center sits at 17 Cornelia Drive in Lexington, North Carolina, offering 100 skilled nursing beds for folks who need care after a hospital stay, illness, surgery, or for those needing long-term help, and you'll find the building comfortable and modern, with both private and shared rooms-even the bathrooms are easy to access, with showers or tubs you don't have to struggle to get in, and every room includes air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a small kitchenette, which is practical for daily living. They handle a wide variety of health needs, from skilled nursing and medication management to help with bathing, dressing, transfers, and all those daily things that can be tough when health is limited, and the staff offers either 12-16 hour nursing care and 24-hour supervision, so help's never far away, plus they use a 24-hour call system for emergencies or even just simple requests. The center has a big focus on helping people get back on their feet, with a dedicated LifeWorks Rehab® program that operates seven days a week, offering therapy two to three hours a day in a very well-equipped rehab gym with tools like strength machines, a dynamic stair trainer, cyber cycles, an HUR iBalance machine, and the alter-G treadmill, which some folks swear by for easier walking practice. A team of regular staff-meaning nurses, therapists, certified nursing assistants, and even a dietitian who work at the center, not outside contractors-use tools like the Recovery Map™ and the Personal Report Card™ so you'll know exactly how recovery's going and what's next, and they handle all sorts of needs, whether it's breathing problems, accident or stroke recovery, post-surgery healing, or a long-term illness. On top of skilled nursing, the center has different care options for short-term recovery or longer stays, with personalized plans tailored by the in-house care staff, plus recovery support for people using walkers or wheelchairs. Amenities are meant to make day-to-day life better, so besides the clinical care, folks get access to a fitness room, arts room, library, gardens and walking paths, movie theater, activity and games rooms, spa, and a community dining room where you choose from restaurant-style, freshly made meals with accommodations for allergies or diabetes if needed, and for those days when it's hard to get out, there's room service, daily housekeeping, and laundry. The place keeps busy with resident-run activities, community events, music and art programs, health presentations-like regular blood pressure checks-and there's a dedicated activities coordinator to make sure no one's left out. The community accepts Medicaid and Medicare, provides transportation for outings and appointments, brings in families for special programs, and supports easy move-ins with help for new residents, all under the watch of administrator Alexandra Garrett. The setting works for ambulatory and non-ambulatory folks, with staff used to transfers, walkers, and wheelchairs, and they keep a steady eye on quality and comfort in a facility run as a for-profit, limited liability company, putting a simple focus on safe, reliable, and respectful care designed to help each resident find a bit more independence and well-being during their stay.
