    Caring staff; mother loved it

I had an excellent experience. The staff - nurses, aides, administration, housekeeping, kitchen and maintenance - were consistently caring, compassionate and responsive; communication about meds and care transitions was clear and prompt. My mother loved the food, wanted to return, and the facility felt very clean and like home - I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with a clear majority of comments praising the quality of care, the kindness and competence of staff, and the cleanliness of the facility. Many reviewers highlighted prompt nurse communication, clear explanations about medication changes, and regular visits without problems. There is repeated emphasis on staff being polite, helpful, compassionate, and patient — attributes that reviewers felt reduced anxiety for residents and families and created a warm, home-like atmosphere.

Care quality and clinical support are recurring strengths. Several reviewers described attentive caregiving, successful short-term rehab stays, and positive experiences with physical therapy. Specific outcomes cited include recovery progress, short stays of good length (for example, an eight-day stay with positive results), and residents wanting to return because of the care and food. Communication with clinicians is noted as good — reviewers mentioned close contact with the doctor and clear updates — which contributes to trust and satisfaction.

Staffing and management receive strong praise for teamwork and responsiveness. Compliments are directed not only at nurses and aides but at administrative staff, maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, kitchen, and ancillary teams. This cross-departmental appreciation suggests a coordinated environment where different roles contribute to resident wellbeing. A named social worker (“Megan”) was singled out as keeping residents happy, indicating effective social work and case management for some families.

Facility conditions and amenities are also frequently praised. Multiple reviews call the facility "very clean," and several say it "feels like home," signaling a comfortable environment. Food receives positive mention from residents who "loved" meals. The maintenance crew and other support staff are specifically commended, reinforcing an impression of a well-run building with attention to resident comfort and cleanliness.

That said, there are isolated but notable negative reports that introduce some caution. A small number of reviews describe rude staff behavior, reports of staff sleeping during rounds, and an unpleasant odor in the facility. These negative comments are not numerous compared with the volume of positive feedback, but they point to occasional lapses in staff performance or facility operations. One reviewer explicitly said they "wouldn't want to live here," which contrasts with many other endorsements and suggests variability in individual experiences or expectations.

In summary, Staunton Health and Rehab Center appears to deliver consistently strong short-term rehab and skilled nursing care for most residents, with standout strengths in compassionate staff, clear clinical communication, interdisciplinary teamwork, cleanliness, and supportive services (including therapy and social work). Prospective residents and families should feel encouraged by the frequent positive remarks and recommendations, but also mindful to ask about current staffing practices, odor control, and supervision during shifts to ensure the occasional negative issues noted in some reviews are addressed or clarified prior to admission.
