    Warm dignified home-like personalized care

I entrusted a loved one to Gull Arbor and have been very pleased - it's a beautiful, cozy country home with owner-supervised, 24/7 personalized care, a low staff-to-resident ratio, compassionate staff who treat residents like family, family-style home-cooked meals, activities, and excellent cleanliness. Spaces fill quickly, and my only real issue was spotty communication around billing/financial matters. Overall I highly recommend this warm, dignified, home-like facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The aggregated reviews portray Gull Arbor Senior Living overwhelmingly positively, with recurring praise for its family-style, home-like environment and very personalized care. Most reviewers emphasize the compassionate, attentive nature of the staff and the hands-on involvement of the owner/operator. Many families report that residents are treated like family, receive individualized attention around the clock, and show health improvements within a short period (one reviewer noted improvement within six weeks). Multiple reviews singled out the facility as a top recommendation or a "hidden gem" in the community.

Care quality and staffing: A central theme is high-quality, dignified care delivered in a small, closely supervised setting. Reviewers consistently cite a low resident-to-caregiver ratio (phrased in reviews as 1-6 staff-to-resident and also noted as 6:1), which translates to more one-on-one time and quicker responsiveness to needs. Staff are described as kind, loving, compassionate, and attentive; families report immediate contact when issues arise and appreciate owner involvement in daily operations and problem resolution. Medical support is strengthened by a doctor on call with geriatrics expertise, showers provided by healthcare professionals, and 24/7 availability for residents.

Facilities and environment: The physical setting receives frequent compliments: a beautiful, well-maintained house with well-decorated bedrooms, large living and dining rooms, a sun porch, and a pleasant country setting with a distinctive red-and-white lighthouse in the yard (some notes about a Google photo mismatch). Cleanliness and grooming are repeatedly mentioned—residents are neat and well-dressed, and the home is described as having a pleasant aroma. The facility is small and quaint, described as a safe, serene, and comfortable alternative to larger nursing homes, with features such as four bathrooms for six residents noted as evidence of thoughtful design.

Dining and services: Dining is a strong positive in these reviews: home-cooked, healthy meals served family-style and encouragement to eat together are frequently praised. Additional services include a beauty shop, regular showers by healthcare staff, and flexibility such as permitting overnight stays and open drop-in visits without appointment. The presence of a resident dog and outdoor cats contributes to the home-like atmosphere for many families.

Activities and social life: Reviewers report an active and welcoming program of social and recreational activities: arts and crafts, sing-a-longs, movie nights, themed parties, and open invitations to participate. These offerings, combined with small group sizes, foster social engagement and a sense of community. Staff are described as going out of their way to spend time with residents, reinforcing the family-feel and individualized attention.

Management and communication: The owners are repeatedly depicted as approachable, trustworthy, and hands-on—answering calls promptly, supervising daily operations, and personally addressing problems. This management style contributes to reviewers' trust and the perception of consistent, high-quality care. Several reviews explicitly state they would recommend Gull Arbor to others and that it was their first choice when recommending care providers.

Notable patterns and concerns: While overwhelmingly positive, reviews are not uniformly so. A small but notable number of reviewers reported negative experiences: comments include "poor care quality," "not as portrayed in brochure," and reluctance to recommend. Specific concerns raised include unhelpfulness with financial matters, poor communication from at least one reviewer (including being hung up on), and the reality that the facility's small size leads to limited capacity and openings that fill quickly. These negative comments appear to be in the minority but are important for prospective families to consider. Additionally, the small, home-like model may not meet needs for more complex or institutional-level services.

Overall assessment: Gull Arbor Senior Living is characterized by consistently strong praise for its compassionate staff, close owner involvement, personalized 24/7 care, home-cooked meals, and a warm, clean, and engaging environment. It is especially well-suited for families who value a small, family-style residence with high staff attention, active programming, and a calm rural setting. Prospective residents and families should be mindful of limited capacity and ask direct questions about financial assistance, communication protocols, and whether the level of medical or specialized care required is a good match. For many reviewers, the positives far outweigh the negatives, with frequent recommendations highlighting Gull Arbor as a valued and trusted option in the community.

    About Gull Arbor Senior Living

Gull Arbor Senior Living sits at 7788 East DE Ave. in Richland, Michigan, and mainly serves older adults looking for a warm, home-like setting with lots of support. The facility's licensed as an Adult Small Group Home-license number AS390295180-and only has room for up to six people, which helps everyone get more personal attention and care. Gull Arbor Senior Living is family-owned and family-run, so the staff treat folks like neighbors, always focusing on respect, dignity, and making sure residents feel they really belong. The place works hard to avoid any kind of big, cold, institutional feel, instead putting effort into a friendly, home-style atmosphere where small touches-like a sun room, themed decorations, and even the chance to bring pets-make the difference.

Here, the care covers a lot, because the needs of older adults cover a lot, too. There's assisted living for folks who want to keep some independence but need help with daily chores or things like bathing, dressing, and managing medications. The staff help with meals that meet dietary needs, laundry and cleaning, and even dry cleaning-so people don't have to worry about those things. For people with memory loss, there are memory care programs set up to help reduce confusion, prevent wandering, and provide a safe place to live. Some residents might only need a short stay for respite care, which offers a break for regular caregivers. Nurses and care aides are there 24 hours, with extra support for things like incontinence care. The home works with doctors and health care workers when needed, so health care stays coordinated.

The rooms come in a few choices, including semi-private or one-bedroom for more privacy. All rooms have safety features like walk-in tubs and support rails, along with cable TV, WiFi, and telephone services, so it's easy to keep in touch or stay entertained. There's assistance for those who need help moving from bed to chair, and for those who need it, the building has things set up for wheelchairs or walkers.

Gull Arbor Senior Living offers community activities every day, with arts and crafts, social gatherings, exercise classes, and scheduled outings. The facility provides rides to doctor's appointments or errands, and they handle housekeeping, so residents don't need to worry about dirty sheets or clutter. For meals, staff cook food to meet dietary rules, and provide healthy snacks. Technology support is available too, with help choosing things like senior cell phone plans or medical alert systems like Bay Alarm Medical and Medical Guardian, plus hearing aid resources. Safety goes further with medication dispensers, home security, and ID theft protection specially for older adults.

People can choose from services like independent living, senior apartments, or townhome options, making it easier for those who want freedom, but with less work and more support. Gull Arbor Senior Living is pet-friendly, so some residents bring a dog or cat with them. The place is licensed for aged individuals and focuses on aging in place, so folks don't have to move just because their needs change. Inspection reports are available, and the most recent are from 10/23/2022 and 11/15/2024, showing the license is current through 11/13/2026.

Gull Arbor Senior Living aims to keep life simple, safe, and a bit friendlier for older people in Richland, with care that matches what each person needs, whether that's just a little help now and then, or more complete support every day.
