    Compassionate care, poor management warning

I spent time at this community and saw amazing residents, warm, home-like surroundings, tons of activities, great food, and truly compassionate staff who supported families and provided comfort in final hours. That said, management is a joke, staff can be awful at times, and I've heard calls for a state shutdown-overall a deeply mixed experience; I'd be cautious.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the provided reviews is largely positive with several strong themes of compassionate care, an active social environment, and a warm, home-like setting. Multiple reviewers explicitly praise the staff as amazing, loving, and supportive — including specific appreciation for comfort and compassion provided during residents' final hours. That language indicates that, at least for many families and residents, the facility delivers meaningful, person-centered care and is viewed as a place where dignity and family support are prioritized. One reviewer explicitly called a short stay “excellent,” reinforcing that the facility can meet needs effectively in both transitional and longer-term contexts.

Staff and workplace culture are recurrent positive topics. Reviewers used words like “great employees,” “amazing staff,” and described the atmosphere as “warm & welcoming to work,” suggesting that many employees are engaged and that the facility fosters a collegial environment. This is reinforced by comments about an active resident population and staff facilitating a lot of activities — “tons of activities” — which points to a programmatically rich environment that supports social engagement and quality of life. Dining is also called out positively (“great food”), and several reviewers described the community as a “great place to live and visit,” which suggests that the physical environment and day-to-day life are attractive to both residents and their visitors.

At the same time, there are notable negative comments that introduce important caveats. A subset of reviews expresses serious concerns: management is labeled “a joke,” staff are called “awful,” and there are mentions of calls for shutdown by the state. Those statements are strong and indicate either isolated serious incidents or ongoing problems that prompted at least some family members or observers to consider regulatory intervention. The presence of both effusive praise for staff and strong criticism in other reviews points to inconsistent experiences — some families report excellent, compassionate care while others report unacceptable performance or governance issues.

Putting the positive and negative points together, the pattern suggests a facility that can and does provide high-quality, compassionate care and a robust activity and dining program for many residents, but which may have variability in performance or management effectiveness that affects some residents and families. The disparity could be due to differences in units (assisted living vs memory care), staffing changes over time, individual staff members, or isolated incidents that have not been uniformly resolved in reviewers’ perspectives. The presence of comments about family support and the home-like environment are strong indicators of strengths in culture and resident engagement, but the comments about management and regulatory concerns are significant and should not be overlooked.

For prospective residents and families, the reviews suggest several prudent next steps: tour the community and observe staff-resident interactions directly, attend or observe an activity and a meal, ask management for recent state inspection reports and responses to any citations, request references from current families (including both assisted living and memory care if relevant), and ask about staff turnover and training. If regulatory complaints were raised, ask management to clarify the nature of those complaints and what corrective actions were taken. Doing so will help determine whether the positive experiences reflected in many reviews are typical and whether the negative reports were isolated or part of an ongoing problem.

In summary, Vicinia Gardens Luxury Retirement Living shows strong positives in compassionate caregiving, supportive family communication, active programming, good food, and a warm, home-like atmosphere according to multiple reviewers. However, the presence of sharp criticisms about management and staff performance, including mentions of potential regulatory action, signals variability that warrants careful vetting. The overall takeaway is cautiously optimistic: many residents and families report excellent experiences, but prospective families should investigate the specific concerns raised to ensure the community’s strengths align with their expectations and needs.
