    Warm, engaged care with caveats

I placed a loved one here and overall I'm impressed. The staff are kind, compassionate and responsive, meals are good, activities are plentiful, and the community - including the resident dog Molly - really helps people thrive. The building is clean, well-maintained and feels safe most of the time. Be aware it's pricey with confusing add-on charges, and some families reported staffing gaps, long waits for help, missed meds or safety lapses after falls. I recommend it for warm, engaged care, but insist on clear billing and confirm they can meet your specific care needs.

    About Sunrise of Schaumburg

Sunrise of Schaumburg sits in a Victorian mansion-style building with a turret, colorful flowers, landscaped signage, and a 3-story layout that feels both elegant and homey, and the facility has been supporting seniors for more than 35 years, which shows in their patient approach to care. The community offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care, with skilled nursing, respite care, hospice support, Dignity Home Care, and even short-term stays, and it has different apartment types such as studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms, many of which let you bring a pet if you want. The suites are set up for comfort, sometimes with a white couch, record player, bookshelf, and decorative accents, and the assisted living suites have kitchenettes with wood cabinets, a white mini-fridge, and sink, while memory care bathrooms have grab bars and emergency call buttons for safety.

Common areas around the building are spacious and inviting, with lounges that have fireplaces, a cozy library with a good selection of books, and a bistro area with fruit, drinks, a bar, and small tables for quiet talk or social visits, and the whole place gets plenty of natural light along with elegant chandeliers that make the atmosphere calm. Residents can enjoy a movie theater, beauty salon, barber shop, piano or organ, game room, computer room, and a private dining room, and there's free Wi-Fi and high-speed internet everywhere, which makes it easy to stay connected. Outdoor features include walking paths, a secure courtyard, raised gardening beds, and a patio garden.

The care team works 24 hours a day and has a Lead Care Manager making sure every resident gets daily support with things like bathing, dressing, and medication, but always tries to help people stay as independent as they can. For those living with Alzheimer's or dementia, the Reminiscence Program and Terrace Club provide special programs, safe environments, and personal activities, and the staff is trained in memory care, focusing on each resident's likes and needs, with specific bathrooms, sensory spaces, and extra safety features. Residents can take part in fitness classes, arts and crafts, baking, gardening, and offsite trips to restaurants or museums, while daily activities are meant to keep everyone engaged socially, mentally, physically, and emotionally, and there are activity rooms and gathering spots for visiting with friends.

The facility serves meals prepared by a professional chef, with restaurant-style options, guest meals, special diets like low-sodium or low-sugar, and a private room for family gatherings, and the dining services have earned praise for good flavor and nutritional quality. Housekeeping, laundry, and beautician services make it easier for residents to focus on enjoying their days. The community holds religious services from different faiths and has both on- and offsite devotional support to meet spiritual needs.

Transportation is available for residents, either at a cost or sometimes provided free, and there is parking if someone wants to keep their own vehicle, while it's also close to public bus lines. The location offers things like handicap accessibility and pet-friendly options, as well as resources for family caregiving, long-term care insurance help, and expert guidance from the onsite staff. Everything is checked for licensing compliance twice a year, so safety stays up to date, and the building stays modern, clean, and well-managed.

Sunrise of Schaumburg is known for a friendly staff who provide helpful, joyful, and kind care, and visitors often notice the warm, supportive mood. Residents get programs, services, and living arrangements matched to their personal needs, from independent seniors to those who need continuing care and support with daily life, and the focus is always on comfort, safety, and enhancing quality of life, without making things complicated. The facility has a 4.6-star rating from 16 reviews and is open 24 hours a day, with tours offered daily from 8am to 7:30pm, allowing families to visit and see if it fits their lifestyle.

The company's signature memory care programs include Terrace Club Neighborhoods for residents with early to moderate memory loss, and Reminiscence Neighborhoods for those with advanced Alzheimer's and dementia. Their Live With Purpose™ programming engages residents through personalized activities aligned with their interests and life experiences.

Sunrise leverages advanced technology including Sunrise CareConnect, an electronic health record system built on PointClickCare technology that enables real-time documentation, comprehensive health tracking, and remote access for healthcare providers. The Road Home Program offers specialized 30-day transitional care for seniors discharged from hospitals or rehabilitation centers, providing medication management and 24/7 support.

Sunrise communities feature Individualized Service Plans, Designated Care Managers, and welcome pets, with many locations maintaining community cats or dogs.
