    Caring, luxurious, safe alternative community

I moved my father here and we are so grateful - the staff (especially Alisha) are loving, heroic, and hands-on, and owner John Paul has created a beautifully designed, cruise-ship-vibe community. The place is spotless and welcoming with nearly every amenity you could want (huge pool, full movie theater, chapel, restaurant, gym, putting green), excellent meals, and nonstop activities that keep residents engaged. Care is attentive, safety-focused, and dementia/hospice support is strong, so families feel reassured. Minor issues: some studios are small, outdoor space is limited, and there've been occasional staffing shifts, but overall it's an exceptional, home-like alternative to a nursing home.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Reviewers consistently praise the staff for compassionate, attentive, and hands-on care. Multiple accounts highlight stable, long-tenured employees, owners living on site, and named staff (tour guide Alisha, owner John Paul) who go above and beyond. Care quality is emphasized in several areas: medication assistance and safety-focused daily care are repeatedly noted, as are dementia-focused services and hospice support when needed. Families frequently describe the staff as loving, supportive, and heroic during declines in health, indicating high trust in the caregiving team.

The physical campus and amenities are a major strength and receive enthusiastic comments. The community was renovated from a hotel and reviewers describe a polished, designer feel — granite counters, high-quality cabinets, tasteful decorations, calming scents, and automatic aerosol dispensers. Amenities lists are extensive and repeatedly cited as a highlight: a large swimming pool, real-size movie theatre, full-size chapel, gym, barber shop, restaurant-style dining (Luigi’s Ristorante), putting green, shuffleboard, indoor courtyard, and plenty of seating and gathering areas. Many reviewers liken the atmosphere to a cruise ship or boutique hotel, and the grounds are described as beautifully landscaped with an outdoor courtyard that supports walker-friendly mobility.

Activities programming is another consistent positive. Commenters describe an impressive array of offerings: fitness and wellness classes, arts & crafts, regular shows, bingo, dances, field trips, and frequent bus outings to casinos, parks, and shopping. Special activities such as assisted horseback interaction and scenic rides were mentioned, along with a steady calendar of in-house events and parties. While many residents are active and social, some reviews note that engagement varies — a few families observed that not all residents participate and that some people spend much of their day alone.

Dining earns mostly favorable remarks with several references to delicious, nutritious meals, dietary accommodations, and attentive dining staff. Restaurant-style dining and the presence of a dining room rather than a cafeteria are specifically appreciated. However, there are mixed reports: one review characterized meal quality as split about 50/50, another noted there is no dinner offered in some cases, and a minor complaint mentioned the quality of a cobbler. Overall the dining experience is generally seen as strong but not uniformly perfect.

Cleanliness and aesthetics are repeatedly praised — reviewers call the facility spotless, well-decorated, and calming. The environment is described as home-like yet upscale, fostering both independence and security. Many families feel the facility offers strong value as an alternative to a nursing home, citing attentive daily care and an environment that encourages autonomy. Several reviews emphasize that it is a great place for independent living and socialization.

The most notable concerns center on staffing history and unit size/cost. Multiple reviewers recall staff shortages during COVID and some ongoing staff turnover; earlier in the facility’s timeline there were issues with insufficient staff for wheelchair support and transfer assistance (though later comments indicate the presence of helpful medication support and stable nursing leadership). Cost is another recurring point: a few families describe the community as expensive, and at least one reviewer felt small studio units were not a good fit for the price. Accessibility notes are mixed — many praise walker-friendly design and courtyard access, but some mention that outdoor space is limited or that certain amenities require a long walk.

In summary, the reviews portray Victorian Gardens as an upscale, well-appointed retirement community with exceptional staff, strong clinical and dementia care supports, a wide variety of engaging activities, and a resort-like set of amenities. Cleanliness, design, and the on-site owners and long-tenured staff contribute to a feeling of safety and individualized attention. Prospective residents and families should be aware of potential trade-offs: occasional past staffing shortages and turnover, mixed opinions on meal consistency, relatively high cost, and reports that some studio units feel small. For most reviewers, the strengths — quality of care, robust programming, abundant amenities, and attentive staff — outweigh these concerns, making the community an attractive option for independent and assisted living needs.

    About Victorian Gardens

Victorian Gardens is a senior living community where residents can choose from studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments, some of which have options like an outside porch, courtyard patio, balcony, or deck, and the apartments are elegantly finished for comfort. The community has luxury amenities including a theater, library, heated indoor pool, shuffleboard, a massive courtyard with a putting green, and walking paths where residents can enjoy the outdoors or sit in the courtyard for a breezy, open feeling. There's a beauty salon, barber shop, on-site general store, chapel, and private dining rooms for family gatherings or special meals, and residents can park their vehicles themselves. The buildings look a bit like a small village inside, with faux fronts and airy spaces, and the entryway is columned and has red brick, giving a welcoming touch.

Victorian Gardens lets residents bring their cats and dogs, and they allow both male-only and female-only accommodations, which is a detail some people care about, and all the showers are wheelchair accessible for those needing them. The community offers a range of care from independent living, assisted living, and memory care for those who may have Alzheimer's or dementia, to onsite nursing provided by an independent service, Helping Hands LLC, which is around 24/7. The activities calendar stays busy, with a full-time director organizing things like game nights, bingo, Wii bowling, movie nights, cards, and field trips to Cardinals games, casinos, and aquariums, which residents seem to enjoy, especially with the ease of complimentary transportation.

On-site, there are devotional services, a chapel for quiet time, and a library for those who like to read. The community supports aging in place, providing help for things like bathing, grooming, dressing, and medication, and they offer respite care for short stays, plus home maintenance services such as cleaning and repairs. The nurses are on staff and also available on-call, and there's help from podiatrists, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy if residents need it. There are options for home care, where trained aides give companionship and non-medical care to those living at home, and the community includes shared residential care homes with live-in caregivers for daily help.

Victorian Gardens has a family-owned background and treats both staff and residents like part of the family, which you can feel in the atmosphere, and while they're not BBB accredited, they do have an A+ BBB rating. Meals are provided, plus concierge-style services to make daily life easier, and the environment aims to be social and welcoming for seniors who want an active lifestyle or need more support as they age. The memory care section offers special support for those with dementia, focusing on reducing confusion and making sure residents don't wander off. Overall, Victorian Gardens mixes both resort-style living and the everyday support many seniors may want, and it's set up so people can keep enjoying life as their needs change.
