    Caring staff, clean beautiful facility

My dad moved in here and I'm not worried - the nurses, CNAs, housekeeping, maintenance and food service are professional, warm and keep me well informed with good follow-up. The place is beautiful, very clean and COVID-free, with a nice activity calendar and outstanding cooks (ice cream socials are a bit pricey). They offer apartments, assisted rooms and full assisted care; I'd recommend it if it fits your budget.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, with consistent praise across multiple dimensions of the community at Bartels Lutheran Retirement. Reviewers repeatedly highlight the quality of staff interactions and the trust they place in the caregiving team. Descriptors such as "professional," "warm," and "awesome" are applied to many different staff roles, including nurses, CNAs, housekeeping, food service, and maintenance. Multiple reviewers explicitly say they are not worried about their family members and that residents enjoy living there (for example, a reviewer noted their dad "loves it here"), indicating high family confidence in daily care and oversight.

Care quality and staff performance emerge as central strengths. Reviewers singled out nursing and aide staff for particular recognition, and also noted good follow-up and communication from the facility — comments that suggest responsiveness and ongoing engagement with families. Maintenance and housekeeping are mentioned positively in the same breath as caregiving staff, which reinforces a perception of reliable day-to-day operations and attention to resident comfort and safety.

Facilities, cleanliness, and safety are other prominent themes. The community is described as "very clean," "nice," and "beautiful," with an "aesthetically pleasant" environment. One reviewer explicitly called out the community being COVID-free, which reflects either effective infection-control practices or a period without outbreaks; this specific point reinforces perceptions of safety and competent health management. Reviewers also praised the physical upkeep and appearance, which likely contributes to the overall positive impression.

Dining and activities receive frequent, enthusiastic mentions. Food is consistently praised — reviewers use terms such as "outstanding cooks" and "very good food." Social programming is visible in the comments as well: there is an active activity calendar and specific events like ice cream socials are recalled fondly. Those comments indicate not only quality meals but also social engagement opportunities that support resident satisfaction and a lively community atmosphere.

Management and communication are generally portrayed positively through references to good follow-up and keeping families informed. Combined with the staff praise, this suggests a culture of transparency and proactive family engagement. The availability of varied housing options — apartments, assisted rooms, and assisted care — is noted and indicates the facility serves a range of needs and care levels, which can be attractive for families looking for continuity as needs change.

The most consistent concern across reviews is cost: multiple comments describe the community as expensive and recommend it primarily if it is affordable to the family. This single recurring downside frames the overall recommendation as conditional; while almost every other facet of the community is praised (staff, cleanliness, food, activities, safety), some families may be deterred by price. In sum, the reviews portray Bartels Lutheran Retirement as a well-run, clean, and pleasant community with strong, caring staff, high-quality dining and activities, and good communication — but one that may be out of reach for those on tighter budgets.
