Crisis Resource Centers (CRCs) operated by the Milwaukee Center for Independence are community-based psychiatric crisis-intervention programs that focus on providing recovery-focused assessment, stabilization, psychosocial groups, and peer support. These centers serve as an alternative to emergency room visits or inpatient hospitalizations for individuals experiencing a crisis related to mental illness, substance abuse, or challenging economic circumstances. The CRCs operate 24/7 and are funded through partnerships with Milwaukee County DHHS and Waukesha County Health and Human Services.
The CRCs offer a range of services designed to meet the needs of individuals in crisis. These services include recovery-focused assessment, psychosocial groups, peer support, timely access to mental health care, a trauma-informed approach to care, telehealth and telepsychiatry services, follow-up care, and evidence-based methods. In addition, individuals can access behavioral and primary health care, as well as ancillary services such as housing, personal care, employment assistance, and benefits coordination. Care is provided in a home-like setting, with a focus on personalized and compassionate care.
In recognition of their innovative approach and dedication to behavioral health issues, CFI's Crisis Resource Centers have been honored with the Biztimes Health Care Heroes award in the behavioral health category. The centers are committed to providing comprehensive services to adults living with mental illness, addiction, or chronic health conditions. Through personalized care and a range of support services, the CRCs aim to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals in crisis.
For individuals experiencing a mental health emergency outside of business hours, Milwaukee County's Crisis Line is available for assistance.
