About Arc Maternal & Infant Program

The Arc Maternal and Infant Program in Madison, WI offers specialized services for pregnant and postpartum women, as well as their infants. This program is designed for women age 18 and older who are pregnant and have a substance use disorder. Women who participate in the program can access treatment options that are provided free of charge. The primary funders of the program are the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, BadgerCare (Medicaid), and the Dane County Department of Human Services.

Established in 1993, the Arc Maternal and Infant Program was created in response to state legislation that called for a facility where women offenders could give birth outside of prison or jail and keep their infants with them in a safe and stimulating community setting. The program has been operated continuously by ARC since its inception, serving not only women referred by corrections but also those who are not involved in the correctional system. The program is licensed as a community-based residential facility and certified as a residential treatment facility for substance use disorders.

The goal of the Arc Maternal and Infant Program is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for pregnant and postpartum women struggling with substance use. By offering comprehensive services tailored to the unique needs of this population, the program aims to promote healthy outcomes for both mothers and their infants. With a focus on holistic care and evidence-based practices, the program strives to empower women to overcome addiction and build a foundation for a brighter future for themselves and their children. Through a combination of medical, therapeutic, and supportive services, the Arc Maternal and Infant Program supports women on their journey towards recovery and wellness.
