    Warm, active community; verify staffing

I toured this community and found the staff overwhelmingly friendly, caring and knowledgeable, which made us feel comfortable, but chronic staffing shortages and turnover have hurt communication and consistency. The grounds are clean, apartments are generally nice, and there's a wide range of activities, outings and on-site amenities (dining room, library, theater, church, bus). Dining is usually good and varied but can be inconsistent and sometimes institutional. It's expensive, and several billing/quality issues left me unsure the value matches the price; dementia-care feedback was mixed. I'd recommend it if you want a warm, active place - but verify current staffing, memory-care capability and billing practices first.

    About Brookdale Stanwood

Brookdale Stanwood is a residential community for seniors with a mix of different living options including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care, so folks can find support right for what they need and, if their needs change, move between care levels without leaving the campus, and it's run by Brookdale Senior Living, which operates similar places nationwide. The building's got 80 licensed beds and is led by an executive director, with staff around at all hours, day and night, to help out in emergencies, assist with things like bathing, dressing, and medication, and make sure everyone feels safe and cared for, which is especially important for those needing help with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, since the memory care suites come set up with private bedrooms, soft lighting, comfortable living rooms, kitchen areas, and views out the windows. Folks can enjoy meals in a spacious dining room with big windows and round tables, while the kitchen staff prepares healthy, quality food and take care of the chores like cooking, cleaning, laundry, and even yard work, so residents don't have to worry about these everyday tasks. The place has indoor common areas, a fitness center filled with adaptive equipment, a beauty salon with a peaceful window view, and a library with a cozy fireplace, while the outdoor patios and courtyard have shaded seating and umbrellas for those who like to sit outside, relax, or chat with neighbors. There's a theater with plush chairs, a computer room, meeting spaces, garden beds for those who like to grow things, a billiards lounge, cafe/bistro, and a TV lounge, plus free Wi-Fi and cable TV throughout the building, so everyone can stay connected and entertained. Social events, fitness classes, educational programs, and bus rides are scheduled for residents to enjoy together, and there's devotional services held both on and offsite if folks want to join in. The building itself has a covered entrance with bright flowers and well-kept landscaping that's easy to get around whether someone uses a walker or wheelchair. The staff are known for being friendly, kind, and always willing to help out or share a smile, and the community is pet-friendly, encouraging a lively, engaging environment where friendships often grow over shared meals, activities, or just passing time in one of the common lounges, and if someone wants a bit of quiet, there are private bedrooms with nice furniture and peaceful views. Specialized support is available for those with Alzheimer's and dementia, including reminiscence therapy and other memory programs, and staff receive special training to provide this care, plus the community can support hospice needs and offers respite care when families need a break. Amenities like free parking, accessible showers, and transportation help residents maintain their independence, and those who still want to stay active and social can join in scheduled outings or take part in activity programming on campus. There's help with daily living for those who need it and wellness programs to encourage healthy aging, so the folks who live here can focus on enjoying each day with support whenever they need it, surrounded by others going through similar stages of life.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Stanwood is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
