Brookdale Richland sits near the Columbia River in Richland, Washington, and offers many types of senior care, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, hospice services, and at-home care, so people can get help fitting their needs and stay in one place as their needs change, and the staff is around day and night, every day, to support folks with emergencies and offer assistance with things like bathing, dressing, getting around, taking medicines, and daily chores. Residents can pick from different apartment layouts like studios, one-bedroom units, two-bedroom options, or shared suites, and the apartments have kitchens with stainless steel refrigerators, cherry wood cabinets, wood-style floors, and granite countertops, along with private bedrooms that have beds, nightstands, lamps, dressers, and windows with blinds. There's an on-site salon for haircuts and styling, and a quiet worship area with comfortable seats, a cross, and a podium, plus convenience features like pet-friendly policies, wheelchair accessibility, Wi-Fi, and parking for residents. Folks can take part in regular activities-music programs, games, movie nights, B-Fit and My Life Story programs, resident-run activities, wellness classes, fitness center and therapy pool sessions, and events indoors or out, with transportation services to help get to local appointments, shopping, coffee shops, or parks, and staff is trained to be friendly and helpful, aiming for a community where people feel comfortable, respected, and involved. Licensed for 159 beds, matching Medicaid use, Brookdale Richland is run by Brookdale Senior Living and keeps services and amenities up to date, offering housekeeping, entertainment spaces, a library, devotional services, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home options, and apartments are set up for comfort with private and shared spaces and options like kitchenettes or full kitchens. There's support for people who want to age in place or need hospice support, and programs and care plans are reviewed regularly as people's needs change, plus there's help with medication management and coordination with outside healthcare providers. Some folks give good reviews for the activities and staff, while others point out things that could be better, reflected in a community score of 6.8, so it's clear the experience can vary, but people will find a stable place for different aging needs, close to the river, parks, dining, and medical services, in a facility that tries to feel like home.

Caring staff but serious problems
I found many caring, friendly staff, very good meals with choices, lots of activities, a comfortable private room and a convenient location. However, communication and responsiveness were inconsistent, housekeeping was hit-or-miss with odors and unclean common/personal areas, and maintenance/call-button/elevator problems raised safety concerns. I also saw troubling administrative issues - billing and medication errors, lost laundry, and reports of neglected residents or unnoticed falls. Staff often went above and beyond, but management oversight and after-hours coverage felt unreliable. I appreciate the compassionate team, but I'd be cautious and hesitate to recommend this place until the safety, cleanliness and billing problems are fixed.

About Brookdale Richland
About Brookdale
Brookdale Richland is managed by Brookdale.
Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.
The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.
Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.
The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.
Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
