    Compassionate staff, amenities, management issues

I've had mixed impressions of Artesian Place. The direct care staff are warm, professional, and know residents by name - the building is lovely, roomy, social, and offers strong activities and dining options - but management turnover, disorganized/unprofessional supervisors, spotty housekeeping/cleanliness, thin medical staffing at times, and unexplained price increases/billing issues are real problems. It's a great fit if you prioritize compassionate staff and amenities, but verify staffing, housekeeping, and billing before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these reviews is mixed but leans positive about frontline caregiving and community life, with recurring praise for attentive, compassionate staff and a welcoming, home‑like atmosphere. Many reviewers repeatedly note that caregivers — including med techs, nurses, dining staff, front‑desk personnel, and facilities teams — are friendly, know residents’ names, and frequently go above and beyond (for example, providing early or late visits and being responsive via call buttons). Several reviewers single out specific staff and leaders (e.g., a resident care manager named Angie and an executive director named Ange) as particularly dedicated and effective, and multiple accounts describe successful rehab outcomes, improved resident mood, and robust social engagement.

Facility and amenities receive strong positive mentions in many summaries: the building is often described as newer or recently remodeled, common areas have new furniture and seasonal decorations, and indoor amenity spaces (puzzle/game room, pool table, movie room, recreation rooms, library) are frequently praised. The location is also a clear advantage — reviewers highlight the convenience of being near a hospital, medical services, shopping, parks, and theaters. Many families appreciate roomy studio apartments, a pleasant lobby and back patio for BBQs, and an overall sense that the facility is clean and well cared for.

Dining and activities are prominent strengths for numerous residents: flexible dining with alternate menus and reports of 24/7 food availability, varied meal choices, and a monthly activity calendar with bingo, music, arts & crafts, day trips, and social events are cited repeatedly. Several reviewers describe a festive, family‑friendly environment with well‑run events that encourage socializing and create friendships. That said, dining experiences are inconsistent in the reviews — while many praise the food as wonderful or pleasant, a subset describes the food as poor, not fresh, or unacceptable.

Despite the many positives, there are consistent patterns of concern that potential residents and families should weigh carefully. Administrative and operational issues surface across multiple reviews: unexpected cost increases, lack of advance notice on pricing changes, perceived deceptive pricing practices or limited discount availability, and billing/checkbook management problems. Several reviewers explicitly call out management turnover or describe administrators as not knowledgeable; these operational inconsistencies sometimes translate into uneven resident experiences.

Clinical staffing and housekeeping show notable variability. Some reviewers commend strong safety protocols, medical oversight, and a caring nursing presence; others raise alarms about insufficient clinical staffing (reports of med techs only, need for more nurses) and a lack of transportation to medical appointments. Housekeeping and general cleanliness are also inconsistent across accounts — many reports praise a very clean, well‑maintained facility, but several cite lapses such as trash not being removed, dirty dishes, unvacuumed floors, and a dirty elevator. This suggests that daily operations and staff performance may fluctuate by shift, team, or over time.

Communication and crisis handling are mixed themes. Several families praise excellent communication, responsiveness, and compassionate leadership; however, other reviewers recount poor communication during critical times (notably during COVID), unprofessional handling of hospitalizations or relocations (including a report of a resident being asked to leave during hospitalization), and limited follow‑through on promises. The divide in experiences suggests that outcomes are sensitive to which staff and managers are on duty and how long a particular leadership team has been in place.

Value and fit vary considerably among reviewers. Some describe Artesian Place as affordable, offering good value and flexible pricing, while others label it overpriced or accuse the facility of misrepresenting discounts and rates. A number of comments emphasize that Artesian Place is an excellent cultural fit for their loved one — warm, social, and supportive — whereas other reviewers say it is not the right fit due to exterior appearance, room furnishings, or perceived organizational issues. Prospective residents should therefore prioritize an in‑person tour, ask detailed questions about current staffing levels, housekeeping schedules, pricing structure, and policies for hospitalizations and transfers.

In summary, the strongest and most consistent positives are the caring frontline staff, warm community atmosphere, diverse activities, convenient location, and many signs of a renovated, comfortable facility. The most significant concerns are variability in food and housekeeping quality, administrative and pricing transparency, occasional clinical staffing shortfalls, and uneven management or operations. The reviews recommend Artesian Place highly when the caregiving team and leadership are engaged and stable, but several caution that experiences can change with turnover or inconsistent operational execution. Prospective families should verify current staffing, contract terms, and housekeeping/transportation policies during their tour and consider speaking with multiple families to gauge consistency over time.

    About Artesian Place Assisted Living

Artesian Place Assisted Living sits on the west side of Olympia, Washington, right in the medical district near the Black Lake area, and you get a real sense of warmth when you walk inside, with friendly staff who always seem quick with a kind word or helpful gesture, and it has a fresh lobby and bright hallways where seating areas and little spots to chat or relax are easy to find, and what's nice is the three-story building has 60 apartments, most of them large studios but also some one-bedroom options, all with kitchenettes, refrigerators, microwaves, and bathrooms with roll-in showers, and there's even emergency call buttons in the apartments, restrooms, and common spaces for peace of mind. You'll find fireplaces in community rooms, a dining space with natural light, plenty of cozy places to watch TV or read, and shared amenities like a game room, library, arts and crafts center, a piano, and a billiards lounge in the loft, and a garden patio that always looks inviting for a walk or a quiet morning. The kitchen serves three meals a day approved by a dietician, and there's always choices for folks who need low sugar or low sodium, with a professional chef making sure everyone gets a good meal and snacks always on hand, as well as guest meals for visiting family. There's housekeeping and laundry done weekly, and everything is kept tidy and welcoming, which feels good when you've got friends or grandkids visiting.

The care team, including licensed nurses, helps with daily activities and can take care of bathing, dressing, and medications, offering support that still lets people keep their independence, and care or service plans get updated regularly to fit changing needs. Memory care is available too, with trained caregivers who specialize in understanding dementia and Alzheimer's, and who do a thoughtful job helping residents stay active and feel safe, so no one feels lost or afraid. The activity program does a good job bringing people together, with Bingo, music, trips to local spots for shopping, scenic drives, field trips, and a wide range of hobbies, crafts, and entertainment, plus there are spaces set aside for socializing, meetings, computers, reading, or enjoying the piano.

Artesian Place makes it easy to be part of the community with transportation provided for errands, shopping, or doctor appointments, and they even offer services on outings if someone needs extra help. There's guest parking, resident parking, and Wi-Fi, with apartments wired for phone and cable, and the building's safe with fire sprinklers, smoke detectors, and electronic security as well. People can participate in religious services, and the community welcomes pets, which matters to a lot of folks. There's a salon on-site with a licensed beautician for hair and grooming needs, along with staff who run daily wellness programs and games and who aim to keep everyone busy and connected.

Artesian Place has Medicaid beds, accepts Medicaid for payments, and supports Veterans Affairs (VA) Aid Assistance, so it's possible to work out different ways to pay for care, and they offer respite stays and hospice services, so people can get short-term support or end-of-life care if needed. There are both all-inclusive rent options and rent-and-care plans, and the staff make sure everyone feels supported in whatever way fits best, with personal attention and a real effort to exceed expectations. The whole place is managed by Caring Places Management, and the management team remains accessible, attentive, and focused on creating a safe, welcoming home that lets residents hold onto their independence while getting whatever help they need, without making it feel like a hospital or a hotel but just a well-cared-for place to live, with lots of chances to enjoy each day.
