    Warm staff, beautiful facility, pricey

I toured Sunrise of Edmonds and was impressed - the staff were warm, genuine and attentive, the facility is beautiful, very clean, and rooms and amenities are excellent. Activities are engaging and residents seemed happy; meals are plentiful and often good, though opinions on food quality varied. Care felt high-quality with strong staff relationships and attentive nursing, but I noticed slow response times, some admin turnover, inconsistent caregiver training, and they couldn't accommodate all complex medical needs. It's safe and comforting, but expensive - I'd recommend it if it fits your budget and specific care requirements.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Sunrise of Edmonds are predominantly positive and emphasize a warm, compassionate caregiving culture, strong nursing and memory-care capabilities, and a well-maintained, attractive property. Multiple reviewers express high satisfaction with day-to-day care, citing attentive caregivers, long-tenured staff, and specific staff members who went above and beyond. Families frequently describe feeling reassured and confident that their loved ones are safe and well cared for; many single out the nursing team, care manager continuity, and proactive communication (including health updates and photos) as major strengths.

Care quality and staff: A dominant theme across the reviews is the quality of caregiving. Many reviewers highlight compassionate, patient, and detail-oriented staff who build relationships with residents — some reports note the same caregiver assigned consistently, creating strong bonds. Memory care is called out repeatedly as effective and well-run (third-floor memory-care references appear multiple times). Several reviewers praise the clinical and nursing teams for their responsiveness and competence, and some name individual staff members who provided exceptional service. At the same time, a minority of reviews describe variability — occasional poorly trained caregivers, language-barrier issues, and slow responses — indicating staffing or training inconsistencies that management should monitor. There are also a small number of reports about management or admissions personnel acting unprofessionally or dismissively.

Facilities and living spaces: The community is frequently described as clean, bright, and attractive, with garden areas, a hotel-like presentation, and well-kept common spaces. Apartment-style living with studio, one- and two-bedroom options, wheelchair-accessible designs, and in-unit kitchenettes (in some memory-care units) are appreciated. Amenities such as a salon, parking garage, concierge, and accessible layouts are mentioned as positives. Reviewers differ, however, on whether the atmosphere feels more hotel-like rather than “homey”; some prefer the home-like feeling while others find the facility’s presentation more institutional. Size of apartments is a common pain point for some families who find units too small for their needs.

Dining and activities: Most reviewers note robust dining and activity offerings. Many praise plentiful and healthy meals, family dinner support for events, and well-run communal meals; several reviews describe restaurant-quality food and exceptional kitchen staff and chefs. Conversely, some reviewers report food that is just “okay,” occasionally cold or bland, and a perception of limited regular meal options between monthly events. Activities programming is frequently lauded — exercise classes (yoga, chair aerobics), music groups, art classes, outings, bingo, social hours, and men’s groups are all called out — and staff organizing activities receive positive marks. A smaller subset of residents found that activities did not match their personal interests or were limited by pandemic-era restrictions in past periods.

Safety, health logistics and communication: Many family members specifically commend Sunrise Edmonds for transparent communication, regular health updates, organization of vaccine clinics, and proactive incident notification. These practices contribute to family confidence. However, isolated but serious safety concerns are raised in a few reviews: unlocked gates and wandering risks, and at least one report of a questionable transportation decision for a cognitively impaired or sick resident. These are not the dominant theme but are significant and recurring enough to warrant attention.

Management, admissions, and variability: While reviewers often praise frontline staff and long-tenured employees, there are several comments about administrative turnover and inconsistent follow-through on issues. A few reviewers describe unprofessionalism from sales or director-level staff during tours or admissions (specific names were mentioned in individual reviews). Moving-in logistics are a mixed experience: many say staff helped resolve challenges and smoothed the transition, while others cite moving fees, cancelled tours, or rough starts. The net picture is one of effective day-to-day operations tempered by occasional administrative gaps.

Cost and value: Cost is a recurring concern. Numerous reviewers explicitly call Sunrise of Edmonds expensive and potentially unaffordable for some families. While many feel the pricing is justified by the high quality of care, amenities, and staffing ratio, others question the value when food quality or administrative responsiveness is inconsistent. Affordability and perceived value vary by household resources and expectations.

Patterns and recommendations: The strongest, most consistent positives are the caring, relationship-driven staff, strong nursing and memory-care services, a clean and attractive facility, and an active programming calendar. The most notable negatives are price/affordability, variable food quality, occasional management or admissions missteps, and rare but important safety or staffing inconsistencies. Prospective families should prioritize an in-person tour focused on care-team continuity, ask for recent staffing and turnover data, inquire about training and language support among caregivers, tour the specific apartment types available (to verify size and layout), and discuss how the community handles safety measures for residents who wander or require urgent transport decisions. Asking for recent family references, specifics about administrative escalation procedures, and examples of how the community resolved past concerns will help balance the overwhelmingly positive caregiving reputation with the less frequent but material criticisms.

Bottom line: Sunrise of Edmonds appears to offer a high level of personal care, strong memory-care capability, and a welcoming, well-kept environment with many valued amenities. For families able to afford the community, many reviews indicate peace of mind and excellent daily life for residents. However, potential residents and families should perform targeted due diligence around apartment size, food preferences, administrative responsiveness, and specific safety protocols to ensure the community is the right match for their medical and lifestyle needs.

    About Sunrise of Edmonds

Sunrise of Edmonds sits as a continuing care retirement community with assisted living, memory care, and independent living options, where staff stays a long time and takes care of residents as if they're neighbors, and there's a strong focus on safety, warmth, respect, and making individual care plans because everyone has different needs and preferences, so folks get specialized attention whether they need light help, full care, or memory support for Alzheimer's or dementia, and even those who need two-person or mechanical lift transfers find support here. The place has garden beds where residents can dig and plant, a secure patio with big trees and comfortable chairs, and long walking paths through well-kept landscaping, so people can go outside safely, including those with memory problems, since the enclosed courtyards, locked memory care buildings, wander-alert bracelets, and a computerized system all help protect residents who might walk off.

The building itself is wheelchair friendly, has a big wooden staircase in the grand foyer with art hanging on the walls, and offers a covered veranda for sitting outside, so people who want fresh air or a good view can get it without worrying about rain or sun. There are several activity rooms, where residents watch movies on large TVs, and community lounges with fireplaces for sitting together in the evenings. Folks can join gardening clubs, try Wii bowling, take art classes, or participate in live well and pet programs, which help with staying busy, and the caregivers make sure everyone gets a chance to join or get reminded when help's needed. For spiritual needs, religious services are held both on and off site, and there are devotionals, with both Protestant and Catholic services available, while therapy groups like reminiscence and sensory-based activities give residents with memory diseases ways to connect.

There's a small bistro café and big dining rooms with wooden floors, round tables, and snack bars where food is served, with options for special diets such as gluten-free, low or no sugar, and low or no salt, which means folks who need those diets get what they need, and family or friends visiting can get guest meals. Suite accommodations range from studio apartments to two-room suites, each with kitchens and bathrooms, so residents can have some privacy and independence, but if they need help, nurses and staff are around all day and night, with a doctor on call and monthly wellness checks on top of that. Housekeepers handle laundry and cleaning, beautician and barber shops are there for grooming, and the Jacuzzi and accessible showers make hygiene safe and easy. Free Wi-Fi and cable TV are available, as well as a library, arts and crafts center, piano, and an organ for those who enjoy music.

Sunrise of Edmonds offers respite care, hospice services, and can handle behavioral care for people who act out, as well as specialized memory care under names like Reminiscence Program and Terrace Club. The team can give insulin shots and handle blood sugar checks, provide mechanical lifts for moving people who can't walk alone, and organize transportation-either complimentary or through convenient bus lines that stop nearby-for errands, appointments, or outings. The facility is run by Sunrise Senior Living, Inc., has room for up to 76 residents, and encourages socializing with monthly events and community meals. The electronic Sunrise CareConnect system lets doctors and families stay connected on resident health remotely, and there's a family engagement app with photos and activity calendars. For safety, all staff get training for dementia care, and there's always a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or experienced caregiver on site, so residents and their families can know help's never far away.
