    Caring, clean facility; highly recommended

I placed my dad here and I'm grateful - the staff are wonderfully caring, patient, and responsive, with many long-tenured caregivers and an owner who goes above and beyond. The facility is clean with wide aisles, a nice dining and living room, and home-cooked, nutritious meals; wound care and medical needs have been handled well and my dad is healing. Activities are limited and it's expensive, but for dementia care and overall quality of life for families, I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Avalon Progressive Care is strongly positive, with recurring praise focused on the quality of caregiving, the food, and the facility’s cleanliness and layout. Multiple reviewers used words like "wonderful," "caring," "personable," and "patient" to describe staff, and several comments call out a dedicated owner and long-tenured employees. Residents and family members commonly note that the environment is clean, accessible (wide aisles), and has pleasant communal spaces such as a nice dining room and living room. The facility is explicitly recommended by some reviewers for dementia care, and at least one family reported improvement in their loved one’s condition while at the community.

Care quality is a prominent strength in the feedback. Reviewers emphasize attentive, responsive care and an overall sense that residents' needs are noticed and met. Phrases such as "good care," "never unclean or ignored," and "cared about her needs" indicate consistent positive interactions between staff and residents. The presence of a hands-on owner who "goes above and beyond" reinforces the perception of committed leadership, which several reviewers link to improved quality of life for residents.

Dining is another clear asset. Multiple reviewers highlight "home-cooked," "nutritious," and "tasty" meals, calling the food "fantastic." The dining room itself receives positive mention as an attractive communal space. These comments suggest that mealtimes are both a nutritional and social strength for the community.

Facilities and atmosphere are described positively: clean spaces, accessible layout (wide aisles), and comfortable common areas contribute to a sense of a well-maintained, livable setting. Reviewers also describe a positive community atmosphere and express gratitude, noting that the community is "good for families" and that they are "thankful" for the care provided.

There are, however, some consistent concerns to weigh alongside the positives. A recurring negative is limited activities — reviewers explicitly state that programming or activities are constrained. This suggests that while basic care and amenities are strong, engagement and enrichment opportunities may be an area for improvement, especially for residents who need regular stimulation or structured social programming.

Cost is another clear downside: reviewers mention a "high cost," indicating that price may be a barrier or a source of concern for prospective residents and families. In addition, at least one reviewer raised a specific clinical concern about wound care. While most caregiving comments are positive, this note suggests that certain medical or specialized nursing services could be variable or warrant closer monitoring by families or by facility management.

Finally, there is a mixed picture regarding staffing stability. Several reviews praise long-tenured staff, which signals continuity and experience; however, one comment notes staff turnover in the area. This contradiction could indicate that while core staff and leadership are stable, some positions experience turnover — something families may want to ask about during tours or admission conversations.

In summary, Avalon Progressive Care appears to deliver strong, compassionate caregiving in a clean, accessible facility with very favorable dining and a supportive community atmosphere. The owner’s visible dedication and many positive staff reports are standout strengths. Prospective residents and families should balance these positives against concerns about limited activities, cost, and the isolated report about wound care. Asking specific questions about activity schedules, costs and fees, and clinical protocols (including wound management and staff continuity) during a tour or intake discussion would help address those concerns and provide a more complete, personalized assessment.

    About Avalon Progressive Care

Avalon Progressive Care sits on 2nd Ave in Clarkston and holds a small, close-knit community with just 12 licensed beds for assisted living, which makes the place feel quieter and more personal than bigger senior homes some folks might know about, and the staff here never seems to be far off when you need someone, always around and awake if there's a call for help, and they've got a system in place for all sorts of care-from diabetes management, regular doctor checks, and medication reminders, through the hands-on things like bathing, dressing, and helping folks get where they need to go within the building or even for doctor's appointments or errands if someone doesn't feel up for driving anymore, and if someone's got special diets for blood pressure, diabetes, or any other concerns, the kitchen takes care of that right alongside three homemade meals a day with meal planning and even chef-prepared dishes every so often. People at Avalon can choose between private or semi-private rooms, all with appliances and ADA compliant bathrooms, and there are roomy studio units, and everything looks pretty well-kept and tidy-the staff handle the laundry, regular housekeeping, and all the maintenance, so no one has to worry about that, and for activity there's something new most days, like arts and crafts, music sessions, board games, movie nights, fitness classes in the exercise room, special event parties, and regular wellness programs, plus a garden for anyone who likes to be outside, a reading room, and even a hot tub or wellness area for quiet relaxation. There's a beauty shop and barber right on site, and people can bring their pets if they want, which seems to make the place feel more like home to many, and for those who need memory care or have conditions like dementia, Alzheimer's, or Parkinson's, the team provides extra attention, with respite and hospice care also available, and caregivers will do two-person transfers or insulin shots if needed and answer requests that come up without making folks wait, and there's always transportation help for heading to religious events, appointments, or just to get out for a bit. Avalon's licensed by the State of Washington, and the owner's verified the details, which adds a layer of comfort for families, and with private and shared housing, lots of social programs, clean grounds, and attention to dietary or health needs, there's a good bit here focused on offering each resident a sense of dignity and independence no matter the level of care someone might need, so it stands as a steady option among senior living communities in Clarkston.
