    Bright, spacious community with drawbacks

I toured this brand-new, very clean community and was impressed by the bright, spacious apartments (studios to 1-2BR) with in-unit washer/dryer, lovely garden/picnic area, salon, fitness room, library and daily activities. Staff were mostly friendly, professional and helpful, and dining is restaurant-style with many menu options and 24-hour choices (food quality seemed mixed). Location is excellent - downtown, walkable to shops, restaurants and farmers market - but costs are high and I noted occasional staffing, communication and privacy/management lapses. Overall a beautiful, active place that's convenient for visitors, but pricey and not the right fit for everyone.

    About Merrill Gardens at Burien

Merrill Gardens at Burien sits at 15020 5th Ave SW in Burien, WA, right beside Town Square Park and near Burien Town Center, so it's easy for residents to walk to the park, shop at the farmers market, or visit local coffee shops, banks, and restaurants, and there's also easy access to the Airport & Light Rail Transportation Center and healthcare places like Franciscan Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Burien Medical Center. The facility has a new and beautiful look with brick outside and wood-paneled inside, lots of comfortable spaces, indoor and outdoor common areas, a main dining room, Wi-Fi, and high-speed internet throughout for convenience, plus it's pet-friendly and set up for accessibility. It offers three levels of care: Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care, with 60 licensed beds under ALF 2406, and a General Manager named Sarah Kiepe leads the staff who are there day and night, all week long, to help with emergencies or daily needs like bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management.

Residents can choose from different apartment layouts, even two-bedroom, two-bath options for independent seniors, and there are specific spaces and programs for folks with memory challenges, with well-protected areas and daily brain-boosting activities designed to maintain skills and improve quality of life. The Merrill Gardens team builds personalized plans for everyone, so people get the support they want and keep as much independence as possible, and privacy and freedom of choice are always a big part of how things work there. The Anytime Dining program means residents can eat fresh, nutritious meals from a chef in a restaurant-style setting when they want, and the full social calendar brings educational, religious, and fun events, social hours, and outings to help people make friends and stay connected to the community. There are beauticians on-site, devotional services on and off property, and the community organizes activities for staying active, creative, and social, so people can keep up with hobbies and join in when they'd like while living in a setting that cares about safety, independence, and everyday happiness. Merrill Gardens at Burien is part of the Merrill Gardens family of communities, and this place puts focus on helping seniors live active, engaged lives, whether they're enjoying the independence of hassle-free living or needing some daily assistance or memory care.
