    Warm staff, spacious clean apartments

I moved my mom here and overall we're very happy - the staff are warm, professional and attentive, the building is spotless with beautiful gardens, and apartments are spacious with big windows. Meals are good (some outstanding soups and fish), activities and outings are plentiful, and care is individualized and reassuring. Housekeeping and weekly laundry are included, pricing is straightforward, and administration is informative and proactive. Minor downsides: occasional staff turnover/understaffing and it may not suit high medical/memory needs; some apartment amenities (AC, wifi) can be extra. I'd recommend an in-person tour - we feel she's safe, cared for, and at home.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is largely positive with consistent praise for the caregiving staff, cleanliness, grounds, social life and leadership — but tempered by recurring operational issues such as staff turnover, inconsistent services, and some variability in dining and management responsiveness.

Care quality and staff: The most frequently mentioned strength is the quality of direct care. Nurses, caregivers and front-office staff are repeatedly described as kind, prompt, professional and attentive. Multiple reviewers specifically named leadership (Director Ed and other executive directors) as wonderful and noted proactive, family-like management. Families report quick notifications from nursing staff, helpful portal calls, individualized attention, and staff who take residents on walks and engage them personally. That said, a recurring negative theme is staff turnover and periods of understaffing, which reviewers linked to lapses in communication and occasional service shortfalls. A minority of reviews described more serious interpersonal problems with management (e.g., a difficult or bullying manager) and an instance where a family felt compelled to move their loved one out.

Facilities, rooms and grounds: Reviewers consistently praise the facility’s cleanliness, spacious apartments, large windows and well-kept courtyards with mature plants and comfortable outdoor seating. Many residents found apartments to be comfortable, decorate-able and equipped with useful features (refrigerators, private baths, walk-in showers). The community appears homelike and smaller in scale for many, with reviewers highlighting a supportive, family-like atmosphere. Reported negatives in this category include older buildings in places, limited availability of certain unit types (one-bedrooms in independent living), no AC in some apartments, and at least one specific safety concern about a memory-care room with a large picture window facing a sidewalk.

Dining and housekeeping: Food is a prominent and generally positive theme — several reviews describe “restaurant-quality” meals, world-class soups and enjoyed menu items (salmon mentioned specifically), along with special events (Fourth of July BBQ, wine & cheese nights). Many reviewers described housekeeping as included and apartments as spotless. However, dining received mixed feedback: some families wanted more variety, others reported blended or less appetizing food early on, and a few called the dining quality disappointing. Housekeeping and laundry descriptions are inconsistent across reviews: some state weekly housekeeping and laundry included, while others said residents must do their own laundry or that laundry was only every two weeks, and some noted limited housekeeping when a resident was bed-bound. These inconsistencies suggest differences by care level or changes over time.

Activities, social life and amenities: Activity programming is a clear selling point for many reviewers. The activity director is frequently praised, and the calendar often includes outings, happy hours, exercise classes, music, crafts, and community events — contributing to strong resident engagement and friendships. Several reviewers credited the activity team with keeping memory-care residents active and engaged. Conversely, some reviews reported declines in programming or fewer activities when key activity staff left, indicating that the quality of programming can hinge on individual personnel.

Management, communication and operations: Many families found administrative staff to be informative, responsive and resourceful; community tours were often described as warm and well-handled. Positive communication practices (frequent calls, portal updates, immediate responses) provided families peace of mind. On the other hand, multiple reviews mention high staff turnover creating communication challenges and occasional unfulfilled promises. A few reviews described poor management responses to concerns, and at least one mentioned an abusive nursing manager — isolated but serious complaints that contrast with many positive leadership mentions. Wi-Fi being an extra cost and occasional security system concerns were also noted.

Memory care and clinical suitability: Memory care receives mixed but mostly positive attention: rooms are described as large with private baths, staff are engaged, and families say memory-care residents are kept active. Still, reviewers cautioned that the community may not be the best fit for very high medical or memory-care needs. Specific issues included lockdown for safety (which some viewed as restrictive), an unsafe-seeming room with a large street-facing window, and general comments that higher-acuity clinical needs might be better served elsewhere.

Value and overall recommendation: Pricing impressions are generally favorable — many reviewers describe straightforward, fair and reasonable pricing compared with peers, and some call it good value. However, a subset of reviewers felt the community was overpriced relative to cheaper personalized 1:1 care options or reported poor value when service expectations were unmet. Despite those negatives, a strong pattern is that many residents and families would recommend Sagebrook Senior Living at Bellevue: reviewers cited outstanding staff, enjoyable social life, attractive grounds, and a comfortable living environment as reasons they consider it the “best” among local options.

Bottom line: Sagebrook Bellevue is repeatedly praised for its compassionate and professional caregiving, clean and attractive facility, robust social programming, and strong community feel — led by directors who often earn high marks. The main caveats are operational consistency: staff turnover, occasional understaffing, variability in dining and housekeeping/laundry policies, and isolated management problems. Prospective residents and families should tour the community, verify current staffing stability and service inclusions (laundry, housekeeping, Wi-Fi/AC), and ask specific questions about memory-care safety and how the community handles transitions when key staff change. Overall, the reviews portray a warm, active and well-loved community that delivers excellent personal care most of the time, with a few notable but addressable operational concerns.

About Sagebrook Senior Living at Bellevue

Sagebrook Senior Living at Bellevue sits over at 15750 NE 15th St, just east of downtown, in a spot that's quiet but close to everything like Crossroads Shopping Center, where there's a library, a weekly farmer's market, and activities like Movies in The Park and the Dusty Strings Concert Series, and if you want nature, parks like Crossroads Community Park, Ivanhoe Park, and Keeney Park are nearby too, and there's a grocery store right across the street, which comes in handy. People who live here get studio or one-bedroom apartments, each with a kitchenette and access to either independent living, assisted living, or memory care, and you can add assisted living services whenever you need more help, so if someone starts out independent and needs more care, that's possible, and the community does try to keep things affordable and easy for folks over 55.

Sagebrook's main goal is to care for the whole person and their family, offering help to seniors with things like medication reminders, mobility support, and special memory care for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, which means staff with special training work with those who need extra memory support, and staff are known to be both fun-loving and professional, so the place keeps a cheerful but respectful feel. There's a lot to keep busy with every day: yoga, chair yoga, Tai Chi, story time, cooking clubs, game nights, arts and crafts, Nintendo Wii bowling, gardening with the gardening group, book discussions, a resident musical group, and plenty of social and educational events put together to help folks stay active and make friends, and there's a regular schedule of group activities to keep everyone engaged.

You'll find indoor and outdoor common areas, plus recreation rooms, a putting green, patios and gardens, a bistro dining area, and a computer area with WiFi, along with on-site beauty services, and both resident and guest parking, and folks can have pets if they meet some rules, so people who want animal companionship still have good options. The staff provides meals with vegetarian choices, and guests can join at meal times, plus there's room service and a full-size kitchen for when folks want to cook, and cleaning and laundry help is available as well, including in-house and dry cleaning services.

Transportation gets covered by a bus with a lift, so whether it's grocery trips, doctor visits, or community events, there's a way to get there, and the facility is licensed by the state, managed by Leisure Care, and led by Executive Director Pauline Smith, who helps keep things running smoothly. Apartments are spacious and well appointed after a 2015 remodel, with plenty of amenities like handicap access, cable and internet wiring, and private cleaning or aide services available. There's hospice and respite care too if the need arises, and overnight guests are allowed. Sagebrook accepts residents 55 and up, and brings home several community awards, like Best Meals and Dining, Best of Senior Living, Best Activities, and Most Friendly, and while it holds an A+ rating with the BBB, it's not a BBB-accredited business at this time. Residents can participate in in-house and offsite devotional services, and the whole effort is around creating a safe, worry-free home where people can live with dignity, stay independent as long as possible, and remain connected to others in a welcoming, family-style environment.
