Sunflower Gardens is an Alzheimer’s Specialty Center that opened its doors in Fall 2015. The facility was designed with the residents in mind, featuring a one-story building with three interconnected neighborhoods, each housing a maximum of 16 residents. The concept behind this design is to create a homely environment where residents can engage in day-to-day activities such as grocery shopping, attending church services, going to the movies, and more. Each neighborhood includes two screened-in living room areas, a porch off the dining room, a full dining room where all meals are served restaurant-style, and a residential kitchen where residents can use appliances side-by-side with staff.
Residents at Sunflower Gardens have access to a range of amenities and activities within the facility's "town" area. The town includes social activities, independent activities, a bank, post office, library, tavern, pharmacy, cafe, market, chapel, snoezelen room, beauty salon, and barber shop. Residents can choose between private or semi-private rooms, with individual thermostat-controlled heating and air conditioning. The bathrooms are ADA-compliant with grab bars, walk-in showers, and heat lamps. Additionally, there is a built-in night light above the commode for added convenience.
Sunflower Gardens provides supervised medication administration, quarterly medication reviews by a pharmacist, and three meals a day prepared by a registered dietician-approved menu. Residents also have access to nutritional snacks 24 hours a day and daily housekeeping services as needed. Therapy services, including physical, occupational, speech, and psychological therapy, are available through an outside vendor chosen by the responsible party. The facility also offers transportation services to physician appointments for a fee.
For residents in need of transitional or respite care, Sunflower Gardens offers traditional and respite services for those recently discharged from the hospital or caregivers in need of a break. Transitional services typically last 30-90 days, while respite services can range from three hours to 30 days. The facility aims to provide cost-effective options for residents and their families. With primary care physicians and a pulmonologist on-site, Sunflower Gardens prioritizes the well-being and comfort of its residents, offering a range of services to meet their individual needs.
