Senior Care Plaza, located in the former McKeesport Sheraton Inn, has been a longstanding personal care home in the community since 1992. However, the facility has recently announced its closure, which is scheduled for May 1. Despite having a license for 100 beds, it has been operating at a reduced capacity with fewer than 20 residents currently residing there.
The closure comes after a prolonged struggle with state regulators over licensing issues, resulting in Senior Care Plaza operating under a provisional license since March 2021. Inspections and violations have been mounting since 2018, with state regulators citing concerns such as missing paperwork, unsupervised medication and cleaning supplies, and other infractions. Fines have been levied for these violations, leading to a challenging financial situation for the facility.
Speculation has arisen regarding a potential new owner acquiring Senior Care Plaza. Court documents mention a company called "LionStone Care 325 LLC" as a co-defendant in a lawsuit against the care home, suggesting a change in ownership may be on the horizon. LionStone Care is an Ohio-based operator of nursing homes and personal care facilities, with locations in other states.
Despite the challenges and controversies surrounding its closure, Senior Care Plaza has been a longstanding provider of care for residents in need of personal care services. The facility has served the community for several decades, offering a range of services to support the well-being of its residents. As the closure date approaches, efforts are likely underway to ensure a smooth transition for current residents and staff members.
