    Beautiful facility, troubling staff behavior

I found the facility beautiful, clean and hotel-like with plenty of amenities - three meals, salon, laundry, activities, nice common rooms and helpful tours - and many staff were gracious, caring and attentive. The food and first impression were enjoyable and the environment can feel comfortable and well run. However, I also experienced/witnessed rude, incompetent behavior, poor staff treatment, alleged racial discrimination and the firing of my daughter, and I'm genuinely concerned residents may be mishandled - I think a state review is warranted. Overall I'm very conflicted: pleased with the facility but unhappy and warning others to be cautious.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive with important, serious negative exceptions that prospective residents and family members should note. Many reviewers emphasize strong positives: the facility is repeatedly described as very clean, hotel-like, and odor-free, with a gracious atmosphere and attractive common spaces such as a sitting room, cafeteria and an outside gazebo. The property offers a range of on-site services — three meals daily, laundry, a salon for hair and nails, and a private room for family conversations or dinners — and multiple summaries specifically praise the food and the availability of personal services. Several people highlight an impressive first impression during tours and call out helpful, courteous staff and a comfortable environment.

Staff performance is the most polarized theme in the reviews. A large number of summaries use words like caring, attentive, friendly, courteous and thorough to describe staff interactions; reviewers report helpful tours, attentive caregiving and staff who make residents and families feel welcome. At the same time, multiple summaries describe the opposite: rude, unfriendly or incompetent staff, and at least one account labeling the experience as "horrible" and advising others to avoid the facility. This variability suggests inconsistent staff behavior or turnover issues that lead to divergent experiences depending on which staff members families encounter.

More serious concerns appear in a subset of reviews and stand apart from routine praise or complaints. There are explicit allegations of racial discrimination and a report of an employee (noted as a daughter in the summaries) being fired in a manner that prompted calls for a state investigation. Related to that, some reviewers raised worries about residents being mishandled and described poor staff treatment. These are significant issues that go beyond service quality or hospitality: they speak to potential managerial, ethical, or regulatory problems. While the summaries do not provide detailed documentation of incidents, the presence of calls for investigation and strong language in some reviews should be treated as material concerns by anyone evaluating the facility.

Regarding programming and daily life, reviewers mention activities such as bingo and outings; some summaries say there are "lots of offerings," while others only list a few activities, indicating possible variability in program breadth or in reviewers' engagement levels. Food receives mixed but generally positive mentions: several reviewers are "very pleased" or find the meals enjoyable, but a few describe the meals as merely "OK." Practical considerations surfaced as well — the facility may be expensive and there was at least one note about no vacancies in the independent living area — which could affect access and affordability.

In summary, many reviewers praise the Inn at Christine Valley for its clean, hotel-like facilities, on-site amenities, and for staff members who provide friendly, attentive care. However, the reviews are noticeably split: a number of serious complaints report rude or incompetent staff and raise allegations of discrimination and mishandling of residents that have led to calls for regulatory scrutiny. Prospective residents and families should weigh the generally favorable comments about the physical environment and services against the inconsistent staff reports and the significant allegations. When considering this community, it would be prudent to: (1) request details about staff training, turnover, and incident/complaint history; (2) tour multiple times and meet various staff members across shifts; (3) sample meals and review the activity calendar in detail; and (4) ask management directly about any past investigations or disciplinary actions to clarify the nature and resolution of the serious concerns reported in these reviews.
