About Leland House - CLOSED

Leland House, a former 38-bed rest home that served seniors for over 140 years, has recently closed its doors to make way for a new and innovative model of aging in community. In its place, 2Life Communities is developing a state-of-the-art building that will offer 68 affordable apartments designed to meet the changing needs of older adults. The project aims to create a vibrant and inclusive living environment where residents can age with dignity and purpose.

The new Leland House development in Waltham, Mass, is a testament to 2Life's commitment to providing high-quality, accessible, and sustainable senior housing. The building will feature full kitchens and bathrooms in each apartment, along with universal design elements to ensure residents can comfortably age in place. Additionally, a Village Center on the ground floor will offer various amenities and activities to promote social interaction and overall well-being.

One of the key features of the new Leland House is its adherence to Passive House standards, which prioritize energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and carbon footprint reduction. The location of the development, adjacent to the Waltham Senior Center and close to public transit, further enhances its appeal as an ideal place for aging in community. The project represents a collaboration between 2Life Communities, the Leland Home board, and Deaconess Abundant Life Communities, all of whom share a common mission to support seniors in living fulfilling and connected lives.

While the original Leland Home may have closed its doors, the spirit of compassion and care that characterized its long history will live on in the new Leland House. By providing affordable housing that fosters connection and purpose, 2Life is continuing the legacy of the care home and enhancing the lives of older adults in the Waltham community. As the project moves toward completion, it marks a significant step in expanding opportunities for aging in community and showcasing a model that can be replicated across the nation.
