    Friendly staff but negative experience

I wanted to love Twin Valley - friendly, smiling staff, attentive nurse aides, one-on-one care, great activities (courtyard, pool table, indoor birds, resident dog Josie) and a homey feel with regular cosmetology and church services. But after my negative experience I wouldn't put my loved one there, and the pile of glowing, possibly staff-written reviews left me very skeptical - so take the praise with a grain of salt.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The review summaries for Twin Valley Assisted Living are predominantly positive, with multiple reviewers emphasizing warm, attentive care and a pleasant, home-like environment. Most comments highlight the staff—nurse aides, activities aides, and leadership—as friendly, caring, and engaged with residents. Several reviews explicitly state great care and strong recommendations, and some prospective residents express positive anticipation and plans to move in.

Care quality and staff: The strongest, most consistent theme is quality of care and the staff’s attitude. Reviewers repeatedly mention attentive nurse aides, one-on-one care, personal interest in residents, and smiling, helpful employees. Leadership is singled out positively as well, with at least one reviewer calling the administrator and nursing director "top-notch" and noting strong leadership overall. These consistent remarks suggest that clinical and day-to-day caregiving are perceived as reliable and resident-focused by many reviewers.

Facilities and activities: Reviewers describe the facility as home-like and cite a range of amenities that contribute to resident life. Specific physical features mentioned include a courtyard and outdoor space, indoor attractions such as a pool table and bird habitat, and the presence of a resident dog, Josie, which points to a pet-friendly atmosphere. Activities programming is also praised—wonderful activities aides, puzzles, games, and comfortable quiet time (naps) are called out. Regular cosmetologist visits and weekly church services on Sundays are noted as value-added services that support personal grooming and spiritual needs.

Management, operations, and community engagement: Several summaries indicate recent changes and positive momentum: the facility is described as newly purchased, reopened and back in use, with open house events and employment opportunities being promoted. This suggests active management engagement with the community and staffing recruitment. The generally upbeat tone about administration and reopening indicates confidence from some reviewers in the facility’s direction and governance.

Concerns and credibility issues: Despite the largely positive picture, there are notable negative comments and credibility concerns that should not be ignored. One review succinctly advises "do not put your loved one there," and references a "negative experience" at Twin Valley Nursing Center—an apparent distinction from the Assisted Living reviews. This suggests at least one strongly negative experience, possibly at a related or co-located nursing center rather than the assisted living side. Additionally, some summaries express suspicion that certain reviews were written by staff (staff-written reviews suspected) and mention a sarcastic tone in at least one write-up; these observations raise questions about the impartiality and reliability of the review set as a whole.

Synthesis and recommendation: Taken together, the reviews paint a picture of an assisted living community with many strengths: caring and attentive staff, active programming, a range of pleasant amenities, and management that multiple reviewers praise or view positively. However, the presence of a distinct negative report associated with the nursing center and the suspicion of staff-written reviews warrant caution. If you are evaluating Twin Valley Assisted Living, it would be prudent to (1) tour the facility in person to verify the atmosphere and amenities referenced, (2) speak directly with current residents and family members for candid feedback, and (3) clarify whether the negative report pertains to a separate nursing center entity and, if so, ask management about differences in staffing, oversight, and regulatory history. The bulk of reviews are favorable about assisted living services, but the credibility questions and the single strong negative should be investigated further before making a placement decision.

    About Twin Valley Assisted Living

Twin Valley Assisted Living, found at 208 Oppegard Ave NW in Twin Valley, MN, is part of MN Signature Care Communities and also goes by the name Twin Valley Living Center, providing a mix of care and services for seniors who might be independent but might also need some help with daily things like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, and some folks there have memory issues like Alzheimer's or dementia and there's a special memory care area that's secure for them. The place has both independent living and assisted living options, so seniors can have their own space in an apartment or a residential home, and if they ever need more help, there's 24-hour supervision plus a call system in case someone needs attention quickly. Folks living here can get one or two meals a day, served in a dining room with restaurant-style, all-day dining, and they'll work around food allergies or diabetes, which is a comfort, and there's regular housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning to keep things tidy and comfortable. There's a lot to do if someone wants to stay busy, like walking paths, a garden for a bit of fresh air, a library, and community activities such as movie nights, arts and crafts in the recreation room, and social events that are either set up by staff or are run daily by the residents themselves, and if someone wants to look sharp there's a barber and salon on site, too. The age to move in is usually 55 or 62 and up, which helps make it feel like a community for seniors, and they do have furnished rooms, space for activities, and things like telephones in rooms for extra comfort, along with emergency alert systems to help people feel safe. Seniors who need a little help with getting around, memory support, or just want to be in a community have the option for physical therapy and get extra care as needed, and for those who qualify, there may be some support from Medicaid, Medicare, or special care funding, especially for memory care, though costs are often higher for those services. The staff try to keep everybody engaged and supported, and the place focuses on both health and social activities, aiming to cover most needs that seniors might have.
