Restart, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Minnesota that is dedicated to providing safe and nurturing environments for individuals with brain injuries and related disabilities. They offer residential and outreach programs that are tailored to each individual's unique needs, focusing on teaching basic skills to adults who are struggling to live independently. Since 1986, Restart has been helping individuals maximize their personal potential so they can lead happy, healthy, and productive lives in the Twin Cities community.
When a person sustains a brain injury, their life can change in many ways, impacting personality, behavior, cognition, and memory. Restart works with clients to design and implement structure and support systems that promote effective routines and strategies necessary for successful independent living. Clients at Restart gain confidence to interact with others, access to activities, and the ability to make their own choices as they increase their skills and move along the continuum of independence.
The foundation of Restart's mission is human rights - every person's right to dignity, quality of life, gainful employment, and equal access to opportunity. They operate seven residential sites dedicated to individuals living with traumatic brain injuries, providing a continuum of care based on each individual's level of independence. Through Individualized Home Supports with Training (IHS-T), Restart offers direct supportive services, consultation, and advocacy for persons with various disabilities in the context of their own homes and communities.
The organization is committed to changing lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as demonstrated through the stories of individuals like Dan and Brian who have thrived and learned new coping strategies with the help of Restart. They support residents in accessing employment opportunities and have implemented new programs for resident engagement and life enrichment. With a focus on promoting independence, dignity, and community integration, Restart, Inc. continues to make a difference in the lives of individuals with brain injuries and related disabilities.
