    Compassionate staff, small facility concerns

I placed a loved one here and have been very impressed by the outpouring of compassionate, attentive staff - owners and manager (Tracy) are hands-on, communication is excellent, and the small, family-owned community feels homey, clean, and quiet. Activities, pleasant dining and outdoor spaces, in-house hairdresser, and strong hospice/end-of-life care were definite positives. That said, rooms are smaller than I expected and the kitchen has reportedly been non-operational for months (meals often prepared in crock-pots/electric pans), and there is limited skilled nursing coverage - I was also concerned by reports of missing pain medication. Overall the staff are wonderful and professional, and I'd recommend touring in person and asking about kitchen/code compliance and nursing/medication policies before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive about the culture, staff, and individualized care at Leisure Manor Residence for Seniors, with repeated emphasis on a family-like atmosphere. Reviewers consistently highlight a knowledgeable manager (named Tracy) and owners who are actively involved in resident care. Staff are described as friendly, kind, compassionate and attentive; multiple accounts stress superb communication with families, responsiveness to questions, and staff who know every resident. The small size (around 20 residents) is framed as an advantage by many reviewers, producing a homey feel, quiet location, and a high degree of personal attention—particularly noted in end-of-life situations where hospice coordination and compassionate care were singled out as exceptional.

Care quality and staffing are major strengths in the reviews: reviewers frequently praise individualized attention, accommodating staff, and professional, courteous caregivers. Several comments explicitly mention that staff provided comfortable final days and exceptional support to families. However, a notable clinical/resourcing pattern appears in the negative comments: the facility reportedly does not employ skilled nursing assistants, which may limit the level of clinical care available on-site. Prospective residents and families should weigh the high-touch, home-style caregiving model against any advanced medical or skilled nursing needs.

Facility and environment descriptions are overwhelmingly favorable: reviewers describe the facility as clean, updated, and homey with pleasant dining areas and welcoming public spaces. Outdoor amenities like picnic tables and bird feeders contribute to a peaceful setting. The facility's location is described as quiet yet near downtown Richmond, and some reviewers appreciated its proximity to home (one mentioned it was about 5 miles away). Rooms were described as smaller than some would prefer, so room size is a practical consideration for potential residents.

Dining and kitchen operations present a mixed and significant theme. Multiple reviewers praised home-cooked, home-style meals and pleasant dining experiences, while at least one detailed set of concerns describes the main kitchen as non-operational for more than seven months, with meals being prepared using crock-pots or electric frying pans. That review further alleges the kitchen was not approved by the fire department or in compliance with city code. This is a substantial operational and safety concern that contrasts with other comments about good meals; it indicates inconsistent experiences or a recent disruption in kitchen services. Families should directly ask management about the current status of the kitchen, food preparation procedures, and any inspections or approvals.

Safety and medication management surfaced as another area for careful inquiry. There is an isolated but serious report of pain pills being stolen, which raises concerns about medication storage, supervision, and internal controls. Combined with the reported absence of skilled nursing assistants, this suggests families should confirm medication protocols, security measures, and how the facility handles controlled substances and medication administration.

Activities and amenities are well regarded: reviewers mention organized activities such as exercise, dance, music, outings, and visiting actors, along with practical services like an in-house hairdresser. These offerings contribute to the community’s vibrant, home-like atmosphere and are consistent with the frequent praise for staff engagement and resident-centered programming.

In summary, reviews portray Leisure Manor Residence as a small, clean, and family-run senior living option with highly compassionate staff, strong communication, and excellent end-of-life care. The most important caveats from the reviews are operational and clinical: verify the current status and code compliance of the kitchen, clarify how meals are prepared, confirm the presence or absence of skilled nursing staff, and ask about medication security and protocols. For seniors and families seeking a close-knit, homey environment with hands-on, personalized caregiving, Leisure Manor appears to be a strong fit; for those requiring higher levels of clinical care or strict institutional dining facilities, further due diligence and direct questioning of management is recommended.

About Leisure Manor Residence for Seniors

Leisure Manor Residence for Seniors sits in a peaceful part of Richmond, Michigan, looking out over a quiet back patio with a view of nature, and folks who live there get a homelike atmosphere where staff know each resident by name and treat them like family, which matters a lot to older people who value connection and trust. The place has 20 beds and offers both assisted living and memory care, so they help people with bathing, dressing, medication, moving around, and just about anything else someone might need each day, whether they're fairly independent or need extra help due to memory issues. There's a manager who's also a nurse, and she's known for making sure everything runs right and for spending time with the residents. Residents get emergency alert systems, constant supervision, and staff around 24/7, so families don't have to worry about safety. They work closely with healthcare professionals and even coordinate with hospice care for those who need it, and folks can take advantage of physical therapy and rehabilitation right at the facility. The rooms come furnished, but the staff encourage everyone to bring their own things from home to make it more comfortable, and there are options for both private and shared suites, each with internet and cable if people want it.

Meals get made fresh onsite, and the kitchen staff work with special diets for allergies and diabetes, and residents can eat in a dining room that's open and has big windows. Housekeeping, laundry, transportation, guest parking, and beauty salon services are all taken care of, and people can also use the community garden, enclosed courtyard, walking paths, and patio, which is nice when the weather's good. Entertainment comes in many forms, with regular movie nights in their little house of cinema, art classes, music, field trips, craft sessions, and other activities led by a full-time director, and a lot of the events are actually run by the residents themselves, who get a say in how their days look. There are also on-site devotional services plus religious programs and outings to help keep people connected spiritually. While pets aren't generally accepted, residents and visitors come and go easily because the property has a gate for extra security, and there's a focus on giving everyone both privacy and community time. Bills can be paid by check or credit card as all-inclusive rent, but the pricing details aren't listed publicly.

Leisure Manor holds a valid Michigan assisted living license (AL500082088), and the staff is always working to meet state standards for care and safety, and families can feel assured knowing staff communicate with doctors and nurses for every resident's care plan. The small size of the facility means staff can give each resident individual attention in a calm, clean, and caring place, and they offer respite care for short stays if needed. Reviews give the place between 4.3 and 5.0 stars, mostly pointing out the strong staff, good food, and a warm, down-to-earth environment where people remain active and engaged. All the basics, like laundry and cleaning, are included, and activities run daily, so there's always something to do. Leisure Manor supports seniors who want to stay as independent as possible while getting respectful help when needed, and for families looking for a reliable, modestly sized option in Richmond, this place has earned a good reputation with local doctors and residents alike.
