    Negligent understaffed care, belongings missing

I placed my loved one here and I'm deeply disappointed. Care is negligent and understaffed - physical therapy is insufficient, staff left them waiting outside their room for 30 minutes, and hygiene is neglected so they cry to go home. Personal items including jewelry and electronics have gone missing, staff are rude, and the social worker refuses to transfer them. The food is good, but overall residents are treated like cattle, not people - I believe this place should be shut down.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from the provided reviews is mixed but weighted heavily toward serious concerns. Multiple reviewers describe negligent or poor-quality care, with specific examples such as insufficient physical therapy and long waits to see residents (one report notes a 30-minute wait outside a room). Several comments emphasize emotional harm — residents described as depressed and crying to go home — suggesting both inadequate emotional support and potentially inadequate nursing/support presence.

Staff behavior emerges as a central theme. Reviews frequently describe staff as rude, disrespectful, and treating residents in a dehumanizing manner (phrases used include "treated like cattle" or "treated like animals"). There is also a recurring complaint that staff are motivated by paychecks rather than resident wellbeing. At the same time, reviewers note the facility appears understaffed and that employees themselves receive poor treatment; this combination suggests staffing shortages and morale problems that could be contributing to the low quality of resident care and poor interpersonal interactions.

Safety and security concerns appear repeatedly. Several reviewers reported missing personal items — jewelry and electronics lost from residents' rooms — which raises questions about the facility's property controls and monitoring. One reviewer specifically described staff taking items from a room. Compounding this, a review states the social worker would not facilitate a transfer to another facility, a procedural or administrative barrier that can trap families and residents in an unsatisfactory situation.

Cleanliness and basic hygiene issues are also mentioned. One review cites unclean hair and general neglect, reinforcing the perception that day-to-day personal care tasks may be inconsistently performed. These hygiene and neglect comments link back to the staffing and care-quality issues described elsewhere.

Facility and logistical concerns include distance from family (about two hours for at least one reviewer) and an overall description of the facility as "poor." Some reviewers explicitly demand the facility be shut down, indicating high levels of frustration and concern among certain family members or observers.

Despite the many negative reports, there are isolated positive comments: some residents are "treated very well," the food is described as "very good," and the facility provides "comfort to loved ones" in certain cases. These positive remarks suggest that experiences may be uneven — some staff shifts, units, or times may provide acceptable or good care, while others fall short — resulting in inconsistent resident experiences.

Taken together, the patterns point toward systemic problems that likely include understaffing, low staff morale, inconsistent training or supervision, and inadequate processes for safeguarding residents' belongings and facilitating transfers. The emotional toll on residents and families (depression, crying to go home, calls for shutdown) is notable and indicates the issues are having substantial human impact. At the same time, the small number of positive comments about food and some good treatment show there are areas of strength that could be built upon.

In summary, reviewers report significant and recurring concerns about care quality, staff attitudes, safety of personal property, and administrative responsiveness, while also noting a few positive aspects such as good food and some instances of attentive care. The dominant impression is of a facility struggling with staffing and culture problems that are adversely affecting resident wellbeing and family confidence. These reviews suggest the need for closer oversight of care standards, staffing levels, property security, and social work/transfer policies to address the most serious and recurrent complaints.

Care at Maplecrest is based on each resident's needs, so some folks get long-term nursing, some get postacute transitional care, and others come for short stays or therapy. The facility employs licensed nurses, licensed medical practitioners, nursing assistants, and physical therapists, all working together, and the place runs under North Country Associates. There's plenty of help with medication, mobility, daily care, and transportation, and someone's always on hand. Rehab services include help with speech, swallowing, strength, and mobility, plus inpatient and outpatient therapy. There's support for families too, with teaching about medications and care at home. Adult Day Health Services allow people living at home to come for social connection, exercise, group activities, and a meal, with educational and physical programs. Maplecrest has hospice for end-of-life support and holds religious services every week. Folks can use optional amenities like private phone lines, cable TV, a barber shop, and a beauty salon. The center has regular social gatherings, group discussions, community suppers, holiday events, day trips, and outings for shopping or lunch. There's often job openings for certified nursing assistants (CNAs) with training programs offered, and shifts that suit different schedules. The staff here values kindness and teamwork, and they put a strong focus on safety and health while encouraging involvement with family and the wider Madison community.
