About Lynndale Group Homes

Lynndale Group Homes, operated by Lynndale, Inc., has been a pillar of support for individuals with disabilities and their families for over 65 years. Started by a small group of parents in 1952, Lynndale began as a summer program offering recreational activities for young people with developmental disabilities. The first Lynndale School was opened in the old Boy's Club building with just twelve students. The name "Lynndale" was chosen to honor Dale Evans and Lynn, the daughter of Mr. G. V. Patterson, Jr., who worked tirelessly to organize the school.

Through faith and determination, Lynndale grew over the years, moving to a new facility on Eisenhower Drive in 1980. The organization's expansion included offering training in self-care and adult living skills to prepare individuals for fuller lives and increased independence. Lynndale played a crucial role in advocating for the passage of Public Law 94-142 in Georgia, ensuring all school-aged children the right to an education regardless of disabilities. This led to the mainstreaming of children from Lynndale into the public school system.

As Lynndale evolved, it established the Supported Employment Program in 1990 to help participants secure job placements in the community. The organization's commitment to providing quality housing for individuals with disabilities resulted in the approval and construction of two group homes funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The latest housing project, Lynndale West Apartments, offers community living for 12 people with developmental disabilities in an attractive setting on Marks Church Road.

Today, Lynndale Group Homes continues to offer a range of training, services, employment opportunities, and residential options tailored to meet each individual's unique needs. With approximately 200 individuals benefitting from their programs, Lynndale remains dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and enhancing their quality of life. The organization's journey from a small, grassroots initiative to a comprehensive support service exemplifies their unwavering commitment to serving the community with compassion and excellence.
