    Caring staff, clean facility, recommended

I'm very happy here - the staff are hardworking, caring and friendly, the facility is clean and hotel-like with spacious private rooms, cooked meals, lots of activities (bingo, socializing), good maintenance and therapy equipment, and responsive administration (Gloria and the nursing team stand out). My only caveats: there can be waits for larger apartments and occasional poor communication or mishandling of belongings (label things) and rare lapses in bedside care, so stay attentive - overall I recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is mixed but leans positive in areas of amenities, environment, and many staff interactions, while raising serious concerns about consistency of care and certain safety and communication failures. Multiple reviewers praise Devonshire Care Center for its clean, spacious accommodations, active social calendar, good dining, and a generally caring and hardworking staff. However, a minority of reviews describe troubling clinical incidents and poor bedside care that significantly impact overall impressions and raise safety concerns.

Care quality and staff: Many reviews emphasize that the staff are caring, hardworking, and personable — with repeated mentions of staff being kind, courteous, and attentive. Night and day nurse assistants are noted as part of the care structure, and several reviewers explicitly say their family members are well cared for and comfortable. The administration and director of nursing are described as responsive and available to answer questions, and specific staff (e.g., a named employee) receive praise. At the same time, there are serious complaints about inconsistent care: a subset of reviews reports minimal bedside care, rude or disrespectful behavior, poor sympathy from staff, and a very alarming account of clinical neglect (oxygen being turned off with no family notification and a nurse not checking for a pulse). These incidents indicate variability in staff performance and potential lapses in clinical oversight that merit immediate attention.

Facilities and accommodations: The facility is consistently described as clean and well-maintained. Positive details include spacious private rooms or single apartments with kitchenettes and hospital-type beds, which many residents and families appreciate. Some reviewers liken the atmosphere to a hotel, noting room cleaning and pleasant living conditions. There are, however, remarks that certain rooms may not be suitable for every resident, and there can be long waits for larger apartments. Overall the physical plant, including maintenance staff, receives high marks.

Dining, activities, and therapy: Dining is repeatedly cited as a strength — meals are described as cooked for residents and better than those at prior facilities. The social program is robust, with a monthly activities calendar, bingo, socializing opportunities, and programs that keep residents engaged. The presence of a full gym with physical therapy equipment is a positive for rehabilitation and activity-focused residents. The facility is also noted as dog-friendly, which may enhance quality of life for some residents.

Management, communication, and operations: Many reviewers praise the administration for responsiveness and highlight an attentive director of nursing. These positive managerial comments suggest that leadership is visible and helpful at times. Conversely, multiple reviewers mention poor communication, disorganization around personal belongings, and the need to label items to avoid loss. Staff busyness leading to delays and inconsistent attention is also reported. Taken together, these operational issues point to gaps in coordination and resident-family communication that can undermine trust, even when the facility's leadership is responsive.

Safety and belongings: There are two distinct but related concerns in the reviews: safety-related clinical incidents and mismanagement of personal items. The safety concern is acute — at least one review recounts oxygen being turned off without family notification and a nurse failing to check a pulse, which the reviewer frames as a lack of sympathy and poor care. Separately, several reviewers note lost belongings and advise labeling items; this suggests inconsistent protocols for managing resident property. Both categories represent areas that could damage confidence in the facility if not addressed systematically.

Overall assessment and patterns: The dominant pattern is a facility with strong amenities, attractive living spaces, engaging activities, and many compassionate, hardworking staff members and supportive management. These strengths lead many families and residents to recommend Devonshire. However, the reviews also reveal variability in day-to-day care and specific, serious incidents that point to weaknesses in clinical vigilance, communication, and property management. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s strong environment and programming against the reported inconsistencies in care and the isolated but severe safety concern. For current management, the clear priorities based on these reviews are: investigate and remediate any clinical lapses, standardize procedures for handling residents’ belongings, improve consistent staff training on communication and bedside care, and continue the visible administrative responsiveness that reviewers value.
